At its most simple, the Riverwalk is a path for walking, running or cycling that runs parallel to the river. Its trail begins behind the UA campus and travels west, ending at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Open spaces allow for visitors to throw footballs or Frisbees while areas with trees are perfect for putting up a hammock in the shade. In addition to outdoor recreation, business owners are beginning to see the benefits of placing their shops near this area which receives a heavy amount of foot traffic daily.
The University of Alabama rowing team recently received a new boathouse located at the Manderson Landing section of the Riverwalk. In 2012, football coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, dedicated the Nick's Kids Playground[1].
The Riverwalk runs parallel to Jack Warner Parkway. Features on the other side of Jack Warner include a branch of Tuscaloosa Public Library and the Tuscaloosa News. The Riverwalk is also home to condos, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, including the River Market and the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater.
